In defense of the the people who believe the earth is flat
It's Tuesday, February 16th, 2021, and I'd like to express my defense of people whose view of the world is vastly different from mine. As an adventurer on the Big Blue Marble, I've often found that these are the most interesting people I've ever met.

Now calm down there if you think that I believe the world is flat, I don't. To me it's round. I've been on airplanes, I've watched the moon landings, I've read scientific books, I'm convinced. But that doesn't mean that everyone else is convinced of the same things that I am. And since I have no interest in getting involved in the world's most boring arguments, most of the time I let it go. I can be a good neighbor, and even a good friend, of someone who sees things very differently from me.
There are, of course, limits. As I was out riding around this morning I pondered what those limits are for me, and I decided that I need people to agree with me on the subject of being kind to animals. I'm sure I'll think of some more, but I'm inclined to be OK with people who (shudder!) say that, "Golf is just a game", or worse. We can still be friends, I'll still speak to you.
I can explore places without being immersed in them. In the photo above, I'm at McDonald's, which shocks people who know how much I value my fitness. But calm down, I just have their coffee, which I like, and which is only 97 cents for senior citizens like me. Their entire menu is absolute poison to me, but you'll never see me blocking the door and refusing to let other people in. I practice "live and let live", and am pleased when people do the same for me.
Whatever gets people to a particular place in their life where they've drawn conclusions that seem utterly bizarre to me, doesn't matter. What matters is if they're doing anyone harm. And if they're not, then they should be able to believe in a flat earth, or that the moon landing was faked, or whatever. The list goes on and on, and I really see no harm.
Sadly, COVID-19 deniers, and anti-vaxxers, of which there are quite a few here in the West, can be deadly. Their beliefs can be very harmful, and as a "live and let live" person, I just hope that they stay away from me, and the people that I care about. Far, far away! Their beliefs go beyond just being comical, and go into the realm of endangering my life. But I'll leave them alone if they leave me alone. Hopefully they'll go find a nice social media app that agrees with them, and leave it at that.
Let's stay safe, everyone!
