Walking across Broadway at 58th Street in 1918, Manhattan, New York City

It's 1918, and in this imaginary time-traveling journey, I'm walking across Broadway at 58th Street in Manhattan, New York City. For reference, that's the Columbus Monument back there, which is still there, at Columbus Circle.

I would hope that it's obvious to everyone who sees me that I'm a woman of wealth, and dignity. My full figure tells people as much, and I'm also dressed in black, which became a fashion after Queen Victoria's husband died, and she wore it for years and years. She's been gone for almost two decades now, but I still consider it a smart and dignified look. I added the hat for a bit of fun. You won't see me dressing like those young girls do, flapping around like fan dancers! Disgraceful! Still I plan on voting when it becomes legal for me to do so in two years, I'll do that.

I'm heading over to the park, to get away from all this traffic and noise. It looks like a lot of other people have the same idea, too! My my, what a sweet child there! And the things she'll see when she grows up, now that it's the twentieth century! Do you suppose that's Mr. MacGillacutty, who works at the store? If it is, I'll greet him. I seem to recall when he was a child, too. My, how time does go by!

I'd like to take a hansom cab when I get to the park, but the price may be too dear. I'll look in my purse, and see if I can find some pennies.
