Going to the Lorraine Hotel in 1936, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

It's 1936, and in this imaginary journey, inspired by an image that I just found on the Duke University website ROAD (Resource of Outdoor Advertising Descriptions), we're headed to the Lorraine Hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Do you have two dollars? It's good that we're time-travelers from the 21st Century or we'd probably not be able to afford to stay there. I notice that it says "Rooms from..." so do you suppose we could upgrade to a three dollar room? Or even a five dollar room? The mind boggles! Maybe if we got the most expensive suite in the hotel Mr. Miller would come and visit us. What do you suppose he likes to be called? H.F.? H. Franklin? Frank? Yeah, you're right, probably Mr. Miller.

Luckily, there's a fireproof garage on the premises. I just hate it when your car gets all burned up when you're staying at a hotel, which must have happened often enough in those days that a fireproof garage was worth mentioning on a billboard.

Let's see, it's on Broad Street at Ridge Avenue. What? GPS? Are you kidding? This is 1935, I have a map in the glove compartment. There it is, now open it up all of the way. No, not in front of me, I'm driving!

Ah, there it is. Looks like a nice place. I wonder if we can get a meal and a cocktail?
