Protecting the little ones, and innocents, during COVID-19, August 2021

It's August 3rd, 2021, and even though the vaccine for COVID-19 has been available, and is wonderfully effective, many people here in the USA have no protection. And as always, my heart goes out to them. I've often referred to these people as "the little ones" or "the innocents".

Now calm down there if you're someone who sees my attitude as condescending, it's not. As someone who has had so many advantages in life, including robust health, it just seems reasonable for me to be this way. I've always been that guy. I just took it for granted that it was important for me to help when I could - I sat in the emergency exit on planes, I give a lot of room to elderly people, and of course children.

Thankfully, I'm not alone. There have been people like me all of the time, and there always will be. Speaking for myself, I learned that with great power comes great responsibility, but I'm sure that people understood that they needed to do certain things long before Stan Lee wrote those words.

As someone who has always been fascinated with history, I take comfort in knowing that our species has survived, and thrived, based on two things: intelligence, and social behavior. I've never been a believer in the "killer ape" theory, but instead I like being a silverback. If you disagree with me, I'll sit on a rock and look sternly at you. If you're a little one, I'll protect you.

The last couple of years have been a time for heroes, and villians. I choose to be a hero, and you can tell by my mask.
