Being a beautiful woman in Phoenix, Arizona in 1950

Thanks to the nice people at Life Magazine, who posted this photo, and my top history adventurer (who prefers to remain anonymous), we're able to time-travel to 1950 in Phoenix, Arizona.

I usually imagine myself in these old photos, but even for me this is too much of a stretch, so I'll let you imagine that you're the beautiful, and stylish, woman. Since I'm walking the other way, I'll show you what I see, if I can tear my eyes off of you.

The view is looking south on Central at Adams towards Washington. For reference, the Luhrs Building, which is on Jefferson, is still there. Here, I'll zoom in a bit for you:

A lot of things have changed in Phoenix, but that building has never changed, never been altered, never "reskinned" or repainted. I like that. It's watched Phoenix change around it since it was built in 1924. And there have been a lot of changes since then!

Anyway, let's get back to girl-watching. Or people-watching, because I want to look at everyone.

Waitaminute, who's that guy behind the car back there? He seems happy! If you know the make and model of the car, please let me know and I'll update this post. Oh yeah, and if you can tell me who any of these people are, like maybe your uncle, or your grandma, please let me know, too.

I've always had a special fascination for the '50s, and from what I've read it really was a wonderful time. The American economy was growing after World War II, and Phoenix was growing like crazy. It was good time to be alive!

Thank you for visiting Phoenix in 1950s with me!
