Having a 7-Up float in the 1960s, Phoenix, Arizona

Let's time-travel back to Phoenix in the 1960s, and have a 7-Up float. If you're wondering why, it's because it's a hot day, I've only ever had a root beer float, and now I'm curious, and besides, I just stumbled across this photo on the Duke University website ROAD (Resource of Outdoor Advertising Descriptions).

I live in the Phoenix area, and while it's changed a lot, I recognize this area. The U-Haul building, where a good friend of mine worked in the '80s and '90s, is still there, and of course you can see the street sign that says Edgemont. Of course most people in Phoenix (like me) never pay attention to the streets between the main streets, so this just south of Thomas Road. You're looking south, by the way. Nice Caddy!

OK, now that we're all oriented, let's have a 7-Up float. May I suggest Thrifty ice cream? Yes, vanilla of course. I wonder if you can still get Thrifty ice cream anymore? I really don't eat that much ice cream nowadays.

This is wonderful! Hits the spot on a hot day! I like it, I wonder if it likes me? Thank you for visiting Phoenix in the 1960s with me!

  1. I worked at U-Haul between 2004 and 2006, and recognized that building.
