The future, with only professional drivers

Let's time-travel into the when the only drivers on the road will be professionals. The rest of us will be in self-driving cars. Buckle up!

I've always admired professional drivers. Those guys are good (and some are women)! They can do things with vehicles that seems to defy belief, and I know that it's a combination of talent and practice. And long after the streets are emptied of the clumsy and dangerous amateur drivers, the pros will still be there.

Self-driving cars will handle most things, but there will always be the need for someone who knows how to back up a vehicle so that a crane can be hoisted up to correctly position an air conditioning unit on a roof. And the list goes on and on of things that professional drivers can do that most of us would never be able to do at all.

If you're a professional driver, I salute you. I see you every day, even if most people don't even know that you exist. I developed a fascination for watching these superhuman abilities when I was a little kid, and would stop and watch the Tonka Toys at construction sites. I've never grown out of it.

If you're not a professional driver, I'm so glad that you're not driving anymore. The carnage caused by people who thought that they were good enough to drive went on for far too long. People will look back and wonder how this cruel and heartless thing went on for so long, and was simply referred to as "the death toll".
